Beijing Olympics Lipsynching Controversy…

Story link

As news of the 2008 Beijing lip-syncing controversy sweeps across the world, I must say that I am disappointed in the host country for not showing the actual singer, 7 year old Yang Peiyi.

While I understand that these games are a coming out party for China and how the country must do everything it can financially and creatively to show the world it has arrived, I still feel sorry for the talented little girl who sang her heart out only to not be seen by a few billion people and have someone else take credit for her gift.

The reason? She did not have the looks that China wanted to display across the world. Judging from the pictures, although Lin Miaoke is cuter than Yang Peiyi in my opinion, it is not by much. I would understand resorting to lipsynching if maybe the girl singing was extremely unphotogenic and unbelievably talented, but China seriously dropped the ball on this one. Personally, it would have been more impressive to see a younger girl behind that voice.
