Another end to a disappointing season of Michigan football.
It’s a tough time being a Michigan Wolverines fan right now. A season filled with extreme highs to disappointing lows concluded yesterday with another loss to the hated buckeyes. From the undefeated 4-0 start with last minute wins over Notre Dame and Indiana, to pretty much losing every game for the rest of the season. I can’t believe this is the same team that started out the year. I guess it really isn’t considering we started out with a healthy team, and the team that finished, included a less than 100% freshman qb, 2 senior running backs out, and the best offensive lineman out.
Before this season began, I boldly predicted to my friends and naysayers that the Wolverines are going to be 8-4 this year and at the very worst be at 7 wins and 5 losses. With 4 great performances by a precocious and clutch freshman quarterback, all was thought to be well in Wolverine nation as it watched Tate Forcier be anointed as the one chosen to right the program back to respectability and relevance. After 4 games I looked like a genius, but after 12, a damn fool. I guess in hindsight, it is painfully clear that this football team is nowhere near ready to play big time college football. And while a couple of more positive plays during the MSU game and Iowa game may have changed the final record, the same can be said for the results of the Notre Dame and Indiana games. Although the offense is a big improvement with true freshmen qbs Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson at the helm this year, the offense is still very inconsistent in scoring, especially when playing against good defenses.
The defense on the other hand has been a major weakness all year and needs to correct itself as soon as possible. Much respect to Kevin Leach and Jordan Kovacs, but when your starting defense has two walk on starters, out of all of the scholarship players on the roster, you’re defense is not gonna be good and it clearly showed this year. I fear for the defense next year. With one of the two bright spots of the defense definitely heading to the NFL and the 2nd very likely following right behind. It is clear the coaches gotta spend the rest of the year recruiting their asses off. Hopefully some continuity in the defensive coordinator and a year of experience will see a noticeable improvement next year. Here is to hoping that Justin Turner is the second coming of Charles Woodson everybody has hoped for and Will Campbell becoming the beast he was projected to be coming out of HS.
While watching the last few seconds tick off of today’s OSU vs Michigan game. The sixth buckeye win in a row in this storied rivalry, I could not help but feel disappointed. However, my disappointment wasn’t directed at the team. Especially the defense’s valiant efforts led by blue chip senior Brandon Graham, I was also surprisingly not as upset at the 5 turnovers by the offense, which basically gave away the game. What I was angry about was the fucking fairweather bandwagon riding fans that do not deserve to hold season tickets but do. The ones that allowed what was supposed to be a home field advantage, a loud sea of maize and blue clad irritators to be heavily sprinkled with red. The ones that turn our senior’s last home game into a neutral field. All for what? A few measly dollars? Thanks for turning Michigan Stadium into one of the easiest places to play in the entire country.
Here is a piece from the Wolverine Liberation Army
It’s senior day. Brandon Graham has played at maximum effort, valiantly, all day. Mark Ortmann and David Moosman have largely protected Tate Forcier well. It’s their last day, their last moment in a Michigan uniform, on the field of Michigan Stadium, and you fair-weathered, contemptable assholes have turned this into a road game for them.
This isn’t about liking Rich Rodriguez. This isn’t even about SUPPORTING Rich Rodriguez. This is about seeing this Senior Class that has worn the Michigan uniform for four or five years off – thanking them for the hours of entertainment they’ve provided your thankless, pathetic asses for half a decade.
“But Michigan is bad”, “I don’t want to sit in the cold and watch them lose again”, “Rodriguez is an embarassment” – fuck you. Fuck you with a barbed-wire baseball bat. Give me your fucking tickets – or anyone who cheers for Michigan, not just a winner.
This will likely be one of this blog’s last posts in it’s current incarnation, and I cannot think of a better send-off.
Michigan fans: many of you are spineless, entitled, fair-weather bitches. Show some respect to the kids you profess to cheer for. On many kids’ final game in the Big House, you have embarassed Michigan more than this team ever has on the field – you turned Michigan Stadium into a pro-OSU crowd, and it makes us, as a blog, completely fucking sick.
My sentiments exactly.
A win against the buckeyes would have done wonders for us. Finally breaking Ohio State’s win streak, give us momentum heading into a bowl game, all those extra bowl game practices the team could have had, having the football recruits see what Michigan is like when we win, but instead you useless sacks of crap, I thank you for cramping up my space when the team is doing well and for leaving at the first sign of trouble. I hope you do not purchase tickets next year or ever if you aren’t willing to make the commitment win or lose.
Here’s looking to Michigan football 2010, a more experienced offense led by a healthy Tate Forcier, a more talented defense, and hopefully a lot more wins.
Go Blue.

Beat the Hawkeyes!
10/10 Momma’s bday tommorrow… all she wants is a good ol’ big blue ass whuppin on them hawkeyes … actually never mind that’s all I want. She really wouldn’t give a rat’s ass about either, but I’m hoping that my spending 4 years + tuition in Ann Arbor may sway her allegiance a little bit. Possible all white uniforms for the maize and blue this Saturday night!
Mock up by UMGOBLOG:

- Rich Rod and his “get a life” comments -
For all of the readers reacting negatively to Coach Rod’s comments telling UM fans to “get a life” really need to take a deep breath and read it in its entirety. And not the short and sweet sensational bullshit trimmed nice and neat by writers to get hits. Even if Coach Rodriguez was not your coach of choice and your fav candidate is off somewhere else doing their own thing, you gotta suck it up and support who you got now, and don’t be a douchebag like this troll selling his allegiance to another team. Why do I feel like it is some OSU fan with too much time on his hands creating this bullshit ebay listing.
In anycase, the time to support your team is now and hope for the best. hopefully with a couple of qb’s next year and other recruits we can return to being one of the elite teams in the country.
Also please don’t lose anymore players/recruits than we have now
Mallett, Boren, Mcguffie, Johnson, Fera, Newsome, etc etc etc
- Rich Rodriguez, according to Wikipedia –
So after we lost to Toledo, the first MAC team michigan has ever lost to, I decided to take a look at Rich Rodriguez’s past credentials. I wanted to see why he was getting paid the millions we are giving him. Naturally, the first place to look up this information is Wikipedia, not only because of the easy access to quick information but also the incredible accuracy of that information.
- Unacceptable –
The University of Michigan football team’s fall from grace culminated in a loss to the lowly 1-4 Toledo Rockets, who are now 2-4. In a season of already low expectations, the football team managed to exceed those expectations in a negative way. Some notable low points following today’s game are that Toledo is the first MAC team to win in Ann Arbor in like ever and the first MAC to beat Michigan in the last 25 games. After today’s lost, Michigan’s 33 straight bowl games streak will be at risk if they don’t shape up soon.
I, for one was not able to watch this game, because Dish Network in Philadelphia decided to take away my free trial of the Big Ten Network without letting me know. After following the game on numerous game trackers, I am glad that I didn’t have to witness that sorry excuse of a game with my eyes. I probably would have been blinded, either from the terrible playing on the screen or from the self-inflicted stab wound from my fork.
To lose to Toledo with a block field goal after getting to Toledo’s nine yard line brings back painful memories of App State. It’s a different team, different year, different coach, but the same fucking result. It’s bad enough that we lose to our hated rivals every year for the better part decade, but to suffer these embarrassing losses is ridiculous.
I understand that Wolverine nation needs to be patient because we are in a “rebuilding” season with our new system, coaches, players, heck even a “newer” stadium. However, the way we are losing is unacceptable for the winningest team in college football history. The Michigan Wolverines should not be losing to a 1-4 Toledo team. In my opinion they shouldn’t even have lost to Notre Dame. I also hear and read a lot about letting Rich Rodriguez get the players that are suited for his system and Michigan is going to be scary down the line. Sure the quarterback position and the offensive line are terrible, and the team will definitely improve with recruits next year. However, my point is that we should not be losing the way we are. What is wrong with the players we have this season? There’s plenty of star power to go around in the 2008 recruiting class, check rivals, scout, whatever your preference. Even Steven Threet was a four star quarterback coming out of high school. While they don’t fit in Rodriguez’ system specifically, they should be more than enough to win against Toledo!!! It’s one thing to not have the players to run your system, because they cannot physically perform at the level required, its another thing to average damn near 5 turnovers a fucking game. I just think that’s bad coaching. What about the defense? The defense returns numerous starters and was supposed to hold down the fort while the offense grows. Yet the defense has been inconsistent and unreliable.
Sure I wanted Les Miles to coach for the Wolverines and was never a Rich Rodriguez fan. But I was hoping he would win me over this season with his flashy spread option offense. Now, 6 games later, we are 2-4, it seems like every week I get more reasons to doubt his coaching abilities. The team constantly drops the ball literally and probably leads the country in turnovers. Michigan over the years has consistently had great players, if you are not winning, then you are not doing something right as coach. If Rod doesn’t straighten up by next year’s end, hopefully we can release him and go for Les. That contract extension he’s got can’t stop us; we already did the same with R. Rod.
Note: Don’t fucking play Nick Sheridan, his only upside was that he’s “mobile” How the fuck is he mobile? There was a reason why he was a walk on, and now we all know why too painfully fucking clear.
Ahh gotta love wintry mixture of snow, sleet, and rain

Michigan Man…
After coach Lloyd Carr’s retirement, the term “Michigan Man” became very popular with Michigan related media. A few days ago I read an article from the Detroit Free Press titled “LUKEWARM ON RODRIGUEZ? Desmond Howard sad U-M didn’t hire a Michigan Man” and I decided to find out what is the big deal about a Michigan Man. To do so I read the biography of the great Bo Schembechler, the ultimate Michigan man.
Bo’s Lasting Lessons by Bo Schembechler’s and John U. Bacon.

After I finished reading the book today, it really brought meaning to the term Michigan Man. A Michigan man isn’t just a noun. It is an adjective and it describes the person’s values and the personal integrity that makes him a Michigan Man. The book really showed Bo’s characteristics. A strong will to win, extreme loyalty, great personal integrity, and the commitment he had to his players, his coaches, and his team. The way he instilled his values into everyone is just remarkable and almost unthinkable today. In today’s college football, where money is king and a coach’s word is about as stable as the stock market, Bo’s words were as good as gold.
